The Plöck is one of Heidelbergs most dangerous cycle streets. I have experienced this by myself, because I have been cycling through there for 4 years now to get to the old town.
It could be significantly safer for the cyclists, if there was a general right of law in favor of the Plöck, concerning the following streets: Märzgasse, Schießtorstrasse, Friedrichstraße and Theaterstraße. This should be marked by special road paintings then.
There are three reasons, why this is a reasonable idea:
1) The bike traffic through the Plöck can become really fast. Even if there is a right of law for an approaching car, the stopping distance of the cyclists is too long.
2) There is far less crossing traffic than there is traffic directly through the Plöck.
3) The right of law is not being respected anyways. The legal security and the road safety would improve for everyone- motorists and cyclists.
I would like to meet the mayor on-site, to explain my ideas and concerns personally.
